A sad fate for some Southern women: In one Virginia town, where there are more churches than bars and hush puppies are served with lunch, women are likely to die nearly a decade earlier than their sisters in the next county.

But when exactly is the right time to serve hush puppies? I mean why is “hush puppies with lunch” so wrong?

I think they’ve all just got a problem with cornmeal and how DELICIOUS IT MAKES EVERYTHING. Tater cakes? Salmon patties? Hush puppies? CORN BREAD!?! You can gtfo if you dislike the corn meal, dudes.

 You can take my greens cooked with ham hocks if you must. You can even try to take my hush puppies. But if you lay one single finger on my mamaw’s fried chicken I will bite it off and leave you somewhere where no one will ever find you.

Ummmm, this article is kinda bs cause my great-grandma and her six sisters all grew up and lived in areas (eastern shore VA) that “had more churches than bars” and a diner where everyone ate at least once a day, greens/fried chicken aplenty, Smith Island cake out the wazoo… they all lived very lengthy lives. Most of them well into their 80’s. Food had nothing to do at all with their passing. The ones who died at a younger age all had non-food related issues.
